Abstract

This outreach program results from the initial interconnection between areas of early childhood, especially babies aged 0 to 24 months, with contributions from music, speech-language-hearing therapy, and other fields. Methods: The approach established musical-pedagogical interdisciplinarity actions for babies receiving care in outpatient clinics or hospitalized at the Santa Maria University Hospital (HUSM), of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). It seeks to investigate the contributions of musicalization as an intervention strategy in groups of babies and their companions. This methodological approach is linked to intervention research, from the perspective of timely musical intervention for groups of babies and accompanying adults, with qualitative and quantitative analysis. Results: The approach seeks to improve the community’s health and quality of life and reduce costs with child hospitalizations and therapeutic treatments. It also aims to complement the professional training of students from different undergraduate and postgraduate programs, providing powerful qualifications with musical interventions, based on studies for the development of babies aged 0 to 24 months. Conclusion: This will contribute to the care of babies in various early childhood health services, believing in UFSM’s dialogue with the general community and other healthcare institutions, investing in the inseparability between theory and practice, and between outreach, research, and teaching to produce scientific knowledge about these areas.
